THE DOCUMENTARY

In this feature-length film, viewers will meet Christine and Charlie, learn about their story and the history of the Boathouse, and see the passion the Burlington community has for this iconic lakeside landmark.

The Boathouse stands as both a community gathering place as well as a scenic retreat, holding a piece of the past at its unique location at the mouth of the Winooski River.

Filmmaker Myles David Jewell has been working with Charlie and Christine since 2017 to document the Boathouse. The approach is collaborative, making sure the story is told from the perspective to whom the story belongs. We are looking for community members to share their stories with us. Please see ARCHIVE to learn how to share your material.

In 2019, Myles held a community screening at the University of Vermont for friends and family. A half hour proof of concept was shown. Since then, Myles has been setting up the infrastructure to begin the real work of research and collecting community members stories. Not only for posterity, but to document this rich past, we are hoping to spend more years collecting all stories Boathouse and archive them here on this site. We aim to produce a one hour documentary on the Boathouse, but have all the material that would normally hit the cutting room floor, catalogued and available as well.

The class at UVM is called Community Media Production and aims teach students about collaborative storytelling.
